About

Pablo Jókay is German-Hungarian composer based in Zurich, Switzerland. He has written music for the Student-Oscar-winning short film Eigenheim, animated shorts, feature length documentaries, video games and radio plays. For the animated short But What Does It Mean? he won an award for Best Soundtrack at the Animatou Film Festival. His work for the award winning composers Diego Baldenweg, Nora Baldenweg and Lionel Baldenweg includes the Australian TV-Series Born to Spy and the Irish Thriller In the Land of Saints and Sinners starring Liam Neeson.

Pablo’s intrinsic urge to create music paired with his passion for film, television series, and video games, led him to pursue a career in film composition. His main instruments are drums, piano and vocals, but if a soundtrack needs to sound scary he also likes to “play” the violin. He likes to incorporate elements of sound design into his music through his custom programmed effects and instruments. His schooling in classical as well as pop music gives rise to the multiplicity he considers indispensable to film music, while his experience with drums account for a predilection for particularly rhythmic musical scores.

Pablo holds a bachelor's degree in Composition for Film and Media at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich, where he studied under Prof. Gerd Baumann, and a master's degree in Composition for Film, Theatre and Media at the Zurich University of the Arts under Prof. André Bellmont, Niki Reiser and Olav Lervik.
